In June 2020, Benedict visited his ailing brother Georg Ratzinger in Bavaria, who died shortly after the visit on 1 July. Speculation about his health had arisen in the preceding weeks. He had developed a hematoma after slipping at his residence. In October 2017, a photograph on Facebook showed Benedict with a black eye. He cited his declining health as the reason for his resignation. He stepped down as pope at 20:00 ( CET) on 28 February 2013, in the first papal renunciation in almost 600 years since Pope Gregory XII in 1415, and the first to voluntarily step down since Pope Celestine V in 1294. Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger, then Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, was elected Pope Benedict XVI on 19 April 2005, succeeding John Paul II, who died on 2 April 2005. Also, great nephews: Tom and Ty Lovett, and many cousins. He is survived by his sister-in-law Melba, and nephews: Thomas Lovett, Wade Lovett, and niece: Lynda Lee Lovett. He was very appreciative of the role this organization played in his own life and has engraved on his headstone 'Here lies a sober man'.Äozier was predeceased by his parents, his wife Patty Sue, and his brothers: Thomas Dozier Lovett and James Wade Lovett, and a sister-in-law Marilyn. Dozier was a faithful member of AA for many years and was instrumental in helping others to sobriety. With a degree in Business Administration, he retired from the State of Florida in May 2004 where he was an auditor with the Department of Motor Vehicles and Highway Safety. Dozier attended Georgia State University, and Auburn University, and graduated from Valdosta State in June 1965. An athlete, he was on the football, basketball, golf, and track teams. He attended kindergarten through high school in Quitman graduating in June 1958. He lived in Quitman, GA from the time he was three months old being raised by his mother and her eight sisters. Dozier was the son of Thomas Darwin and Rosa Wade Lovett. Dozier Smith Lovett, III passed away on May 26, 2023, at the Suwannee Valley Care Center in Lake City, FL.
